Final Video.

Planning for the weekend.

I am planning to create small written story boards on the lyrics of the song so that filming goes to plan. I am also going to finalise all of the details with the people who will be performing in the video.

Props.

I shall be buying fake blood, purple / green / black eye shadow and white powder over the weekend ready to film on Monday.
I shall be using chairs from the location to take down into the cellar.
I have contacted the drama department at school and they are more than happy to give me some rope on Monday for me to use whilst filming.

They are the only props that I shall need.

The group of people.

The people who are involved:

• One Girl
• Two confirmed band members
• One vocalist
• Potentially two more band members

This is the way that it is planning out at the moment. I have emailed all of the confirmed people the information and here is the email:

 

I have also sent a copy of the email to one of the people who could potentially be in it just so that he knows what will be going on.

 

 

I unfortunately had to change the girl that I was using as the other became unavailable, however I had already confirmed with someone that if the original girl couldn't do it, then she would fill in. She is still the same thing that I was looking for, so she will fit in fine. I have asked her to wear a black evening gown, with her hair straight and elegant high heels. I shall be doing her make up on the night. This shall include dark purple lip stick and dark eye make up, as well as false eyelashes.

 

I shall also be asking the guys to wear pretty much plain dark / black tops except for the vocalist who I am going to ask to wear a grey top.

Location and lighting.

I went to view the location last night and this is what I shall be using:

 

I have also booked out lighting from school as there are only very dim lights in the Cellar.

Location

Tonight I shall be visiting Catthorpe Manor to look at their Cellar to see if it would be suitable for my to film there, I shall be posting photos of it later.

The girl in the video

This is the girl that I shall be using in the video. I am going to experiment with her make up within the next few days to see what would look best to fit her character.
I chose her as I think that she fits in with the "Stereotypical" person who would be obsessed with the band such as the girl will be in the video.
I am going to dress her in a formal dress so that it connotes her trying to impress the band with her clothing and to show that she is elegant. Also, it could connote that she is thinking of the capturing of the band as an evening out and that she has got to impress them. Which also shows how insane she is.

Inspiration for Make Up for the next video

Due to the video being about kidnapping and torture I am going to do some research into make up and how to make it look convincing. I have posted the first images of my research so far.

Disaster with the band again.

Unfortunately the band that I was supposed to shoot had to cancel. Meaning I was left with no band. However,
I have been shown this video:



This video is exactly the type that if I were to do a narrative then it would be exactly like this. Therefore instead of having a performance video I am going to have a narrative video like this.

Filming with no storyboard.

As I have no proper control over what the band does whilst they are performing, I am going to research into filming with no storyboard.

Inspiration for Digipak and Poster.

This video is an example of what has been done previously which is similar to my poster and digipak. The use of the single line drawings make the video stand out to an extent. It also highlights the video as it is wire framed, so that it looks quirky, retro and different.

Due to these albums (H.I.M and Architects) having plain backgrounds and line logos onthem, they influenced me into what I would use for my digipak as they are all from the same genre of music and they have all been well recieved. The logos are seen as a symbol of their music and are linked in with the music that they perform, this is the same in my digipak as I used the cross to link in with the name of the album "There is a hell" aswell as the buildings/shapes coming up from the bottom of the digipak and poster, this connotes hell and everything that might be coming up from it.These three albums focus on a main image in the middle which are quite simple but still really effective due to the plain background and mainly plain colouring of the cover.
Overall, all of these contributed to my ideas as I really liked the idea of just something really plain, yet it is easy to see that it has been made for a metal band. I am glad that I chose the plain style as it is easily identifiable that it is a metal album and a lot of the target audience will like it. As I am technically a part of the target audience I would say that if I saw a band with that album cover on I would definitely know that it came from this genre and that I wouldn't have a problem with it, and the artwork would probably encourage me slightly to buy the album.

Video Planning. Band, Storyboarding, etc.

After realising how unreliable my first band was, I contacted In Her Dying Memory (video below) to see if they would be intersted in filming for me. I was able to do this because I work for Mutiny Press (An online magazine) and I have interviewed bands such as Bowling For Soup, HIM, The Blackout and Chiodos, so fortunately I am in the position of being able to contact PR companies after I have previously worked with them. However, I would have to change the song as it would be better if they were performing their own song as they would be more comfortable and the outcome would be much better.



I then got a contact for a Metal band called Blessthefall (video below) and requested if I could film them for my media and do some back stage footage, aswell as filming them when they are on stage. They accepted. This shall mean that I will have a legit band, playing their own song, on stage whilst performing.



I shall have to be cautious when doing back stage footage of the band as some bands find it difficult to produce the right material such as Kings of Leon. They filmed the shots personally but they were useless and boring so all back stage shots in the video below are staged.


I am going to have to take this into consideration when filming that I might have to ask the band to do certain things for my video that they may not have done when filming previously.

However, a problem that may occur is that I will only be able to film the song once so I am going to have several cameras filming and film the whole of the set so that I can use the extra footage and fit it into the song that is playing.

Draft Music Video

Due to this being my draft I have not blurred out the offensive language as I am going to film everything again in a better location. Tonight I will start looking for another, more dedicated band and also a studio to perform in as I think that it will make my music video much better for the suggested audience.

Due to the change in my video I decided to email the director again for some more tips. This was his response:

The Hat.

This is a still image from my video that i have just screen shotted.
I am going to have to blur out his hat when I edit my video as this would not be appropriate to be shown on any music channels.
Although this is part of what would be expected from a metal genre 'costume' it is still not appropriate for me to have it shown through the video.

Filming.

I filmed yesterday (10/11/13) in a woods near to my village. We moved around the wood to try different locations.
I shall start editing tomorrow as the file type that my video is on is not compatible on the computer so I shall convert the file type tonight.

The development of my completely new style for my Digipak and Poster.

Update on Filming.

Unfortunately my filming didn't go ahead on both occassions due to more circumstances beyond my control. Sunday the 10th of November will be the day that I film with the origional vocalist. I am 100% certain that this will go ahead as planned as it is all 100% set in stone.

Tonight (05/11/2013) I shall be filming. If for some unexpected reason I do not film tonight then I have a back up of tomorrow night with a different 'singer'.

Hopefully this will mean that I will definitely get to film either tonight or tomorrow.

Plan of Action.

I am either going to film tonight 01/11/2013, 3/11/2013 or 05/11/2013. Those are my three dates that I absolutely have to film on. Preferably tonight, but the other two are my back ups just incase.

I shall then aim to have edited it all by Friday the 8th November, if not before.

I am hopeful that this will work out 4th time of filming.

Draft Deadline and Filming Take 3.

Due to circumstances beyond my control filming did not go ahead on 31/10/2013. I am planning on filming within the next few days but this therefore means that I shall not complete the deadline for 01/11/2013.
